Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research

A redesign project for a great organization.

Client: Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research

The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, based at The Rockefeller University in New York City and under the direction of Nobel laureate Dr. Paul Greengard is one of the world’s premiere Alzheimer’s disease research institutions. The stated mission for their website, alzinfo.org, is, “to educate, engage and create an online community with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week access to information and support via online chats, message boards and the most comprehensive resource databases available.” Going into the the site redesign project, however, presented some challenges for us here at Phoogoo.

How do we go from a clunky and cluttered site with 500+ scattered pages of content in an outdated content management system, to a streamlined and easy-to-use tool which supports not just the stated mission of their website, but the mission of The Foundation as a whole? In a word? WordPress.

It was clear in the beginning that due to the sheer volume and depth of content, the site’s entire navigation system would need some serious reorganization. Due to this challenge, we used WordPress as our CMS due to its user-friendly nature in structuring the new site and for the speed at which it allowed us to implement the content migration from the old to the new.

We want users to be able to find the information they seek quickly. The only thing is, there is a lot of information. We created a jQuery feature element to allow The Foundation to easily post links, articles and scrolling headlines to their homepage, saving space and saving users from some of the issues Flash can create. All in all, the new site is a fresh, usable tool for both The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation and those interested in the great work they are doing.
